Experience the spirit of tasteful culture of the Bastakiya area. Constructed in the late 19th Century, this historic town once gave shelter to Iranian traders visiting the country. Limestone, plaster, mud and corals were used to make the houses originally. Two of the great add-ons which have acted as a boon in representing the concoction of the Persian culture with the Arabic traditions, Bastakiya are one of the most ancient residential places in Dubai.
Some of the best places in the city are Basta Art Cafe, the popular courtyard cafe Majilis Gallery, which portrays a showcase of the works of numerous local and global artists. Ostra is another Gallery, which is known for its contemporary art and sculpture. Another place named as XVA is an art gallery cum guest-house.
The city of Bastakiya was constructed way back in the 1690s. Due to the artistic and historic value of the city, the decision to demolish Bastakiya was revoked.
